Middle School to High School Transition at GCMS

Transition to high school from middle school can be difficult for students.  GCMS Middle School prepares its eighth grade students for this transition with RAP parties. These parties are designed to provide students with the information they need in preparation to enter high school.

At a RAP (Retreat and Pizza) Party

•Local doctors and nurses speak about sexuality issues

•Local police department provides information about the dangers of drinking, drugs, and automobiles

•High school students perform skits (self-developed) about life as a high school student

•Counselors, 8th grade and high school teachers serve as chaperones

Parents are informed of what their student can expect at a RAP party in an invitation/request for permission letter.  Students receive a special invitation to attend.
